
Burton Latimer Town Council Declaration of Climate Emergency
Burton Latimer Town Council:
- Congratulates the previous County and Borough councils for declaring a Climate Emergency
- Recognises the work done by the Task & Finish Group regarding the framework of recommendations for the new Unitary Authority of NNC
- Calls upon the Unitary council to continue this work and place Climate Change policies at the heart of its future operations and services
- Believes that all levels of government have a duty to limit the impacts of climate change along with our communities and partners.
- Will place “Climate Change and Ecological Implications” on all agendas, to demonstrate compliance with the spirit of this motion.
- By passing this motion formally declares a Climate and Ecological Emergency in Burton Latimer and commits to supporting the NNC achieve its target of making the area covered by the Unitary Council carbon neutral by 2030.
The town council commits to:
Initiating a CEE committee that will research and recommend local action including:
- Engaging with the community to develop a local resilience plan based on climate risk
- Propose a schedule for the renewal of infrastructure based on increasing the options of active travel between local towns
- Requesting that air quality monitoring is extended to the town in line with current monitoring undertaken within the Kettering town boundaries
- Requesting Passivhaus standards be applied to planning applications made for future developments within the boundaries of Burton Latimer
